The SMV Community of Prayer was present every Friday from noon – 1:00pm during the 40-days for life prayer vigil. Several of us took on another hour personally. We had a variety of unexpected encounters as we perched ourselves across the street from Planned Parenthood praying for an end to abortion. People going in and out of the clinic noticed us and often smiled and waved. Drivers passing by would honk their approval. People who were walking by shared their stories, some allowing us to pray over them. One woman shared she was homeless and asked for prayer. A local blogger engaged us with curiosity trying to understand both sides of the issue. One passerby gave us each a pearl reminding us of the parable of the merchant who sold all his goods to find a pearl, representative of the treasure and unfailing endurance of God’s Kingdom.
